The NEUROSPICY community is a collective of people who are NEURO-DIVERSE. Neuro-diverse describes neurological differences that impact processing information, communication, learning, or movement.
People can have 1 neuro-diversity, or they can have several neuro-diversities.
Their neurodiversity can be heavily impacting to their every day life and functioning or it can be moderately impacting to their every day life and functioning.
The neurodiversity could be easily apparent to outside observers, or it could be completely camouflaged by masking the characteristics.
Neuro-diversities include:
– Autism Spectrum Disorder
– Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
– Tic Disorders
– Language Disorder
– Speech Sound Disorder
– Childhood-Onset Fluency Disorder (stuttering)
– Selective Mutism
– Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder
– Specific Learning Disabilities
– Intellectual Disability
– Developmental Coordination Disorder
– Stereotypic Movement Disorder
People who do NOT have a neuro-diversity are referred to as NEURO-TYPICAL, meaning they process the environment, information, and communication without disruption or disorganization.
Neurospicy people have to work significantly harder than neurotypical people in every day settings. Just being able to communicate, with all of the verbal and non-verbal observations that are needed, in every day interactions can be exhausting for a neurospicy individual.
It is important that those in the neurospicy community have strategies to help them absorb the world around them and move about in a way that is most functional for them. This may involve having a good understanding of their neurodiversity(ies) as well as knowing how to recharge their energy.
These are some resources that might be helpful on a NEUROSPICY journey in a neurotypical setting.
